The European Theatre Festival "Eurothalia" 2014

The fourth edition of the European Theatre Festival “Eurothalia” will be organized by the German State Theatre Timişoara between 8 and 17 November 2014. With a programme focused on quality and diversity, the festival intends to be a selection of European performances, through which language and cultural barriers are overcome.

The festival is also one of the few opportunities to present in Timișoara some of the most valued and original theatrical works in Romania, signed by prominent theatre creators. This year's programme brings fourteen companies from four different countries: Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Romania. This year’s edition aims, as it did before, at exploring various trends and currents in European theatre, such as classical theatre or contemporary drama, socio-political theatre or contemporary dance.

Eurothalia 2010

Eurothalia, a relatively new concept for Timisoara and Romania, is a European theatre festival organized by the German State Theatre in Timisoara. Eurothalia is therefore a space for encounters, meant to stimulate quality productions, where linguistic and cultural barriers are set aside, in order to outline the background for inspirational tales about essential subjects in the life of the contemporary man.

All these are evidence of not only the ambitious objective of the festival, but also of the valuable schedule of past editions, which brought to scene only creations of top Romanian theatre artists, such as the directors Radu Afrim, Gianina Cărbunariu, Alexandru Dabija, Alexander Hausvater, Mihai Măniuţiu, Radu-Alexandru Nica, Andrei Şerban, actors like Maia Morgenstern, Dorina Lazăr, Coca Bloos, and scenographs Adriana Grand and Dragoş Buhagiar, to name just a few. They have also been joined by famous national and international theatre troupes, such as Münchner Kammerspiele, Schauspielhaus Graz, Theatre „Jan Kochanowski“ of Opole, Odeon Theatre and the State Jewish Theater of Bucharest, the National Theatre and The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj, and many others.
In conclusion, the week-long last edition of the Festival presented a selection of good, interesting and modern shows. Eurothalia 2010 brought together 2200 spectators, artists from 3 countries and 12 theatre ensembles who have joined to create unforgettable evenings.
