For the first time, AREAL and the German State Theatre Timișoara present the Timișoara premiere of “In search of the lost body” - a labyrinthine performance about life and death, and the end of cycles and new beginnings. The piece, collectively created by artists Alexandra Bălășoiu, Cristina Lilinefeld, Cosmin Manolescu, Valentina De Piante in the fall of 2021, is a unique, intimate and personal, emotionally charged experience about bodies lost and found during the pandemic. 

"In Search of the Lost Body" is an artistic project in which we went on a cathartic journey starting from a labyrinthine body-archive and the changes of states, physicality and emotions. We remembered that sight and word are only fragile fragments of truth, illusions of temporary knowledge. In the beginning, we each led a rehearsal session, got in touch with each other's practices, improvised, questioned and became sculptures. Watching ourselves, we unconsciously assimilated each other's  score. Through this "flash of proposals", we met a haiku-body that sings its dead life at every moment. We danced at sunrise, practiced butoh at night among sculptures, and danced with the map of visible/invisible signs within us. Each body is made of multiple bodies and stories, crystallized at once into discontinuous structures. This is what our show will look like: like crystals and corals crying out their future. If the pandemic highlighted the possibility of putting the brakes on for a moment, that's what we want to bring to In Search of the Lost Body: the place of where we slow down,, of honest reflection, where repressed potential finds the right environment to reactivate.
