GSTT Manager attends two events in Madrid at the invitation of the Romanian Cultural Institute

29 May 2023

The Madrid Book Fair, one of the most important events of its kind in Europe, is taking place during this period and will include a wide programme of twenty literary events, organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute, through the National Book Centre, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Romanian Embassy in the Kingdom of Spain.

The slogan of the Romanian presence at Feria del Libro 2023 is "Creando buena química con las letras rumanas", in line with the theme and slogan of this year's edition of the Fair - "Somos de Ciencias y de Letras" and "La Ciencia ilumina la Feria".

Lucian Vărșăndan, director of the German State Theatre Timișoara, and Robert Șerban, one of Timișoara's best-known writers, journalists, and publishers, are also taking part in some of these events. The two will hold a conference on Monday, 29 May 2023, starting at 7 pm, at the headquarters of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid, entitled "An imaginary journey into the reality of the European Capital of Culture - Timisoara 2023". According to the organizers, "it promises to be an interesting dialogue in which two well-known artistic personalities will discuss a city with a cosmopolitan vocation and a rich historical heritage in which more than 30 cultures have coexisted."

On Tuesday, 30 May 2023, at 8 pm, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Madrid branch, in collaboration with ACE (Association of Spanish Writers), CEDRO and the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, is organising a round table at the Europa Pavilion on "What does it mean to write theatre in the 21st century? From book to stage". Playwright Vlad Zografi, TGST director Lucian Vărșăndan, actress Eva Redondo and writer and theatre manager Laura Mihon will participate. During the round table, moderated by Beatrice Bergamín, the guests will talk about current theatre, phenomena and trends in 21st century drama.

In its 90 years of existence, the Madrid Book Fair is a popular cultural event held annually in the Spanish capital to promote books, reading and the work of companies, entities and institutions involved in publishing, distributing or selling books to the public. Since 1967, the Fair has been held in its current location, Retiro Park, which will be included in the UNESCO World Heritage in 2021. The growing number of requests for participation from booksellers, publishers and distributors has made it necessary to look for a new venue: time has proved the wisdom of the choice of Retiro Park, which is now closely linked to this annual event for books and reading.
