Alain Platel &
Les Ballets C de la B, Wim Vandekeybus & Ultima Vez or Gob Squad in the program
of the 2017 edition.
The 7th edition of the European
Theatre Festival Eurothalia, organized by the German State Theatre (GSTT), will
take from the
6th till the 13th of
October 2017.
In the program of the 2017 edition there are important theatre and
dance companies from Europe, most of which are in Romania for the first time.
Ultima Vez and Les ballets C de la B from Belgium
are bringing to Timisoara two contemporary dance
productions that have had tours all over the world, and the Motus company from Italy an
explosive sound performance about gender fluidity. The Onassis Cultural Centre from
Greece will be present with
a documentary theatre performance about migration and discrimination, and Señor
Serrano from Spain
with a performance that experiments with live animation. There will be two
companies from Germany:
Gob Squad collective, with a production focused on improvisation and
interacting with the audience and Markus and Markus with a provocative
adaptation of a classical text.
The program also includes the event series
Eurothalia Xtension, organized alongside the Timisoara European Culture Capital
2021. Eurothalia Xtension is focused on the work of famous theatre director
Eugenio Barba and the Odin Teatret from Denmark, encompassing two film
projections, two work demonstrations, a masterclass dedicated to actors and a
workshop focused on community involvement.
This year, the festival will unfold under
the thematic Limits, theme about
which the festival’s curator Andreea Andrei had this to say: “What are our
limits? Do we want or can we overcome them? How can we do this? Does theatre
have the power to shake consciousnesses and change perceptions? To cancel
frontiers and re-invent the world? At the 2017 edition of our festival as well,
we’re exploring new types of space and types of theatre, interrogate the
present, present artistic actuality and talk about things that matter.”
The program for the festival can be downloaded here.
