"Humans. For Sale", the TGST performance, invited to the 32nd edition of the National Theatre Festival

23 September 2022

The German State Theatre Timisoara was invited to participate in the National Theatre Festival with the performance "Humans. For Sale". The theme of the production, directed by Carmen Lidia Vidu, is the sale of the German minority in Romania during the Ceaușescu dictatorship. The show, which premiered in Timișoara last spring, is based on the reports of the former government negotiator in Bonn, Dr. Hans Günther Hüsch, as well as an analysis of former Securitate documents.

In the same section of the festival, "Macro-stories. Fragmented Societies", the selection also includes the performances "Macbett" by the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj (directed by Silviu Purcărete; set design by Helmut Stürmer), "Cabaret" by the Odeon Theatre of Bucharest (directed by Răzvan Mazilu) and "Oedipus the King" by the Marin Sorescu National Theatre of Craiova (directed by Declan Donellan).

The foreign guests are "Symphony of Progress", a co-production of the Berlin theatre HAU Hebbel am Ufer and the Chisinau teatru-spălătorie, which will also be presented next week as part of the German Theatre's European theatre festival, Eurothalia; "Waste! "a production of Schauspiel Stuttgart (play and set design: Gianina Cărbunariu) or "The Chairs" by Eugène Ionesco, a play directed by Gábor Tompa at the National Theatre of Luxembourg.

This year's FNT will take place in Bucharest from 5 to 13 November. The curators' selection of performances is based on aesthetic and content criteria. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, last year's festival was held online only.
