From 24 to 27 April 2023, the German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) hosted the 21st edition of the International Festival of German-Speaking School and Youth Theatre/Das 21.Internationale Deutschsprachige Schul- und Jugendtheaterfestival.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Nikolaus Lenau High School and brought together talented young people from Croatia, Germany and Romania.

After a difficult period caused by the pandemic, which has greatly affected the artistic field, the organisers were happy to revitalise theatre with this edition of the festival.

The hosts of the event, the Nikolaus Lenau (NiL) theatre troupes, presented some of their performances and workshops were led by specialists from Germany and Romania. Former NiL members who have become actors and theatre educators will also coordinate the workshops.

During the four-day festival, the workshops focused on improving vocal-linguistic skills for the stage in German.

Participants learned body, vocal and pronunciation exercises and discussed the differences between Romanian and German pronunciation. Theoretical concepts were reinforced and tested through spoken texts, and participants were invited to bring texts in German of their choice.
