Franz Kattesch

Actor

Franz Kattesch, born in 1967, grew up in Cisnădioara, studied acting at the West University of Timișoara and worked first as an actor at the German section of the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu, then at the German State Theatre in Timisoara. 

In addition to his work as an actor in Sibiu, he also took over as head of the German Department and taught the optional subject of theatre at the Samuel von Brukenthal High School for more than a decade and a half. He is also involved in the German-language amateur theatre movement in the school and youth sector, leads workshops and directs plays that have been presented at home and abroad. He occasionally writes humorous plays in the Transylvanian Saxon dialect.  

He has had roles in plays by William Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Max Frisch, Anton P. Chekhov, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Schiller and Gotthold E. Lessin. He has worked under the direction of Niky Wolcz, Yuri Kordonsky, Gábor Tompa, Alexandru Dabija and many others. More recently, Franz has acted and performed in "The God Kurt" by Alberto Moravia (directed by Alexander Hausvater), in "Leonce and Lena" by Georg Büchner (directed by Niky Wolcz), in "The Cherry Orchard" by A.P. Chekhov (directed by Volker Schmidt) and in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" after William Shakespeare (directed by Kristóf Szabó).
